Emphasis is placed on critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and delivery of the course is in Spanish. Math word problems are used, as well as analytical reading and writing assignments that require logical reasoning. Math skills are enhanced by work with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, ratios and proportions, algebra, measurement, and geometry. |

Students learn strategies for finding main idea, drawing conclusions, and making inferences. Writing instruction proceeds from sentence and paragraph structure to essay development. ECED 2096 Intro to Child Life: Normalizing Hospitalization for Children, A Child Life Approach (CRN 88870) |

(Prerequisites: IRW 0970 or appropriate placement score) This course is designed to introduce students to Child Life and the importance of Child Life Specialists on a multi-disciplinary team. Throughout the course students will examine best practices for supporting pediatric patients and their families. Students will explore ways to ease a child’s fear and anxiety when in a hospital setting. In addition, students will obtain basic knowledge of therapeutic play, medical play, distraction, coping and medical procedure preparation. This course fulfills ACLP requirements and is taught by a Certified Child Life Specialist. |

(Prerequisites: None) Students learn what computing is and what role it plays as well as the concepts, techniques, skills and tools needed for operating and managing computers in both, personal and enterprise environments. Students will be able to identify the role computing plays in a modern society in areas such as data analysis, automation, or Internet of Things (IoT). Topics include computing devices, operating systems, data representation, file systems, networking, Internet, cloud services, Cybersecurity, database systems, computer programming and troubleshooting. This class can be a substitute for CIS 1108 or BCIS 1110 with department approval.

(Prerequisites: department approval, ENGR 1101, CHEM 1215, & CHEM 1215L) Explosive Technology & Safety introduces students to energetic materials, what makes them explode, and the results of rapid energy release. The course covers safety procedures and the use of explosives in research, development, testing, and evaluation activities. Topics on explosives include basic properties; required safety testing; and how to handle and use explosives safely in day-to-day operations. Instructors will stress safety throughout the course.
