Become an AEMT or EMT Paramedic

The following EMS programs have limited seats. These programs require you to complete a screening process before registering for classes.

• Emergency Medical Services—Intermediate Concentration (AEMT) (One Term and Two Term Programs Available)
• Emergency Medical Services—Paramedic Concentration (FAST TRACK and Traditional Programs Available)
  
  

EMT Intermediate One Term Program: Spring or Fall Only

EMT Intermediate Two Term Program: All terms

• Department approval required. Please complete the approval request form.
• If you are “in-progress” with your EMT Basic classes, you can still be approved. Required pre-requisites are listed on our program webpage.
• You must obtain your EMT Basic license by week two of the EMT Intermediate program.
• You must complete required clinical compliances by week three of the term.

Paramedic FAST TRACK Program: Spring Entry Only

• Program is condensed and rigorous; from December to December. Students work through intersessions.
• Theory courses online. Labs based on work schedule.

About the EMS Program

The goal of the EMS program is to prepare competent entry-level Emergency Medical Technician Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains, with or without exit points at the Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate, and/or Emergency Medical Technician Basic, and/or First Responder levels.

Specific Physical Requirements

Students must be in good physical and psychological health. Students may be asked to provide documentation of a recent physical examination. Many health programs require the student to be able to safely lift and/or move a minimum of 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations are made for students with disabilities. However, some disabilities may prohibit students from completing program specific competencies or gaining employment. Students with disabilities that may interfere with completing program competencies are advised to contact the School of Health, Wellness & Public Safety (HWPS) Office for more information. Supplemental Skills Labs Information

Everyone needs extra time to gain skills in a lab setting. Our supplemental skills labs provide practice time in classrooms and lab rooms. Labs contain EMS equipment and access to an instructor. Sign up soon as these courses fill up!

 The course numbers are:

• EMS 1092: For EMT Basic students and First Responder students. Gain skills practice in EMS lab rooms with an instructor.
• EMS 2092: For Advanced EMT students and Paramedic students. Gain skills practice in EMS lab rooms with an instructor.
