Participate in UNM-CNM Mobile App Contest -- $5,000 for First Place

Sept. 12, 2016 -- The fourth-annual UNM/CNM Mobile App Contest is underway. The contest provides students the opportunity to develop and apply coding skills to make useful applications for mobile devices.
September 12, 2016

The contest is designed to inspire students to take their coding skills and creativity to the next level while producing an app that provides a valuable service to students and the community.

UNM and CNM faculty and staff will provide support to the coding efforts of the contest participants through workshops, mentoring and by making development environments available in student labs. The contest will also provide motivated students the support they need to commercialize any market worthy apps that result.

UNM and the City of Albuquerque have invested in open data sets which are available to enrich the coding experience and make the apps more useful to users. Data sets that are available include UNM events, class schedule data, campus locations, Route 66 images, bike paths, list of local businesses, and more.

Prizes include $5,000 for 1st Place, $2,500 for 2nd Place, $1,000 for 3rd Place, and Honorable Mentions will receive assorted prizes. A $1,000 prize will also be awarded for a "Women in Technology" category. Applications are currently being accepted. To be eligible, students must be currently enrolled or have been enrolled and successfully completed their coursework between Aug. 1 and Dec. 31, 2016. Solo coders and teams are invited to participate with the final submission of their App due on Jan. 9, 2017. Demo Day is scheduled for Jan. 13 and participation is required for all applicants. The Awards Ceremony will be held on Jan. 27 in the UNM Student Union Building.
