Photo Gallery: A Tour of Richard R. Barr Hall

A sneak peak inside the brand new Montoya Campus building that will house everything from the campus library to dental assisting labs
July 11, 2018

Originally built in 1979, the J Building on the Montoya Campus just got a new name and a stunning renovation. It’s now called Richard R. Barr Hall after one of CNM’s most devoted Governing Board members who served 12 years on the Board. The building is set to open for the Fall Term in August. We got an early look inside and brought you some of the highlights below.

A large open-air plaza sits on the west side of the building and was designed to be a gathering spot for students, a focal point for the campus, and place to host campus events.

A large multi-purpose room similar to the Richard Barr Boardroom in the Student Resource Center on Main Campus is located at the west end of Barr Hall.

New cosmetology labs inside the building.

New cosmetology labs inside the building. The Cosmetology program will be moving from the South Valley Campus and into Barr Hall this fall. Features like specialized wiring will allow up to 20 students to run blow dryers at the same time without affecting the circuitry.

Workers are putting the finishing touches on the largest space in Barr Hall that will house the Montoya Campus library, an open computer lab, and ACE tutoring services.

The building is up for a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver certification. It’s eligible for this highly desirable environmental rating thanks to features like energy-efficient LED lighting (pictured here), reflective roofing, an energy-efficient HVAC system, and low-flow plumbing.

The building will have a lounge for nursing moms with features such as dimmable lights and comfortable nursing chairs.

Overall, Barr Hall is much brighter and inviting than the old J Building.
