CNM remains dedicated to supporting the growing need for highly-trained educators in our state by offering two new Teacher Education scholarship programs, which are supported by the New Mexico Higher Education Department.

“CNM plays a critical role in the teacher education pipeline by offering post-baccalaureate teacher licensure programs and the first two years of coursework for a bachelor's degree in Teacher Education before transfer to a university,” says Catron Allred, director of Education Programs at CNM. “We are very excited to offer scholarship opportunities that make it easier for individuals to start their career path to becoming a teacher as we all strive to make a difference in the lives of children in New Mexico.”

The Grow Your Own Teachers Scholarship (GYOT) encourages educational assistants (EA) employed at a public school to enroll and be accepted into a New Mexico Public Education Department approved teacher preparation program at CNM. The GYOT covers tuition, fees, and other educational-related expenses.

“The Grow Your Own Teachers scholarship provides a funded pathway for current Education Assistants in public schools to become licensed teachers,” says Catron.

The Teacher Preparation Affordability Scholarship encourages eligible New Mexico students to attend and complete an accredited PED-approved teacher preparation program at CNM. The scholarship covers tuition, fees, and other educational related expenses for students who are enrolled at least half-time in a teacher preparation program.

“The Teacher Affordability Scholarship is for anyone in the community who wants to return to school to pursue a meaningful career as an educator,” says Catron. “New Mexico needs dedicated educators who want to make a difference in their communities and these scholarships make it easier for them to do so.”
