CNM Bookstore Moves to New Location on Main Campus

July 30, 2013 -- CNM’s newly renovated building at the corner of Basehart Rd. and University Blvd. (723 University Blvd.) is starting to come to life. The first occupants open for business are the Main Campus Bookstore and the CNM Foundation.

The Bookstore relocated from the Student Services Center. It's entrance is on the north end of the newly renovated building, facing east along University Blvd.

The CNM Foundation relocated from the A Building and is located in the south end of the building. The Culinary Arts program is in the process of moving to the building and will be ready for students and classes at the start of the fall term. There will also be a café in the building.

The CNM Governing Board will consider a new name for the building at the August Board meeting.

Luis Campos, executive director of CNM’s Physical Plant, said the new building has a similar design feel to the Student Resource Center, although it’s smaller in scale. Its location is convenient and close to abundant free parking, making it easy to stop by the bookstore and the café that’s part of the Culinary Arts program.

The new building features four Culinary Arts labs capable of holding 24 students each. They include one for baking, one for cooking, a multi-purpose lab that will have advanced baking and cooking classes, and a full-service restaurant that also serves as a lab.

Campos said the new bookstore is slightly smaller than the old one, but “it’s designed better.” Currently all CNM campuses have bookstores, lessening the need for one the size of the previous Main Campus bookstore. The space that housed the old bookstore in the Student Services Center will be renovated for CNM Connect.

NCA Architects of Albuquerque served as the architect of the $7.6 million building with Jaynes Corp. as the contractor.
