Science Demonstrations on Tap for STEMWEEK March 9-14

March 6, 2015 -- CNM’s STEM-UP program (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Undergraduate Pathways) and the School of Math, Science & Engineering will cohost STEMWEEK March 9 through March 14 on Main Campus.

STEMWEEK will be dedicated to celebrating the science, technology, engineering and math fields that abound at CNM. The week will culminate with SUPER-Pi day on Saturday, March 14.

“There will be events, demonstrations and educational information in the Student Resource Center (SRC ) breezeway and on the SRC lawn from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day of STEMWEEK,” said Heather Fitzgerald, MSE STEM Activities Coordinator. “Seminars will also be presented most evenings and will focus on the topics of college transfer and summer student research opportunities.”

Monday, March 9: Chemistry Focus Day:

Wednesday, March 11: Physics and Water Day

  • SRC/SRC lawn: physics league information and catapult/trebuchet building with physics league and New Mexico Tech

Thursday, March 12: Under-represented Students in Science & Nutrition Day:

  • SRC Information on AISES student club  (American Indian Science and Engineering Society) at the SRC
  • Information seminar on student summer research opportunities (NM-AMP- SCCORE) and transfer scholarships (4-5 p.m., MS301)
  • Nutrition Info session (5-6 p.m. MS301)

Friday, March.13: Biology Day

  • SRC-Worm composting information tables and biology information
  • How to build a worm box demo (SRC)
