New Process for Accessing CNM Spaces Is in Effect for Spring Term

Beginning with the Spring Term on Tuesday, Jan. 16, there will be a new college-wide process for faculty and staff to follow for accessing classrooms, labs and conference rooms that are equipped with electronic card readers.

The process for entering classrooms, labs and conference rooms remains the same – apply your CNM ID card to the card reader next to the door, which will unlock the door for entry. Beginning Jan. 16, however, when a CNM ID card is applied and unlocks the door, it will remain unlocked while the room is in use, indicated by the green light on the card reader staying lit.

When a class has finished, or when a meeting has finished in a conference room, faculty and staff are now required to lock the door when exiting the vacated room. Simply apply your CNM ID card to the card reader when leaving the vacated room and the light will turn red, indicating the door will remain locked. Your CNM ID card essentially works like a metal key would, but your card only requires you to swipe it near the card reader to lock or unlock the door.

Doors of classrooms, labs and conference rooms should never be propped open to allow entrance since this prevents the doors from being remotely locked down in the case of an emergency.
