At a recent meeting the New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority Board reviewed updated claim projections and the current fund balance. After considering a variety of options, the board voted to reduce the previously announced medical premium increase of 2.85 percent to 1.5 percent. This increase takes effect Oct. 1 and will be reflected in the September paycheck deductions. The new premium rate sheets will be provided to employees at a later date.

The board is also reviewing the medical plan design to improve coverage for diagnostic lab tests, which would begin Jan. 1. In addition, on Jan. 1 there will be a cap on the number of copays charged for physical therapy. The High Option Dental maximum will increase from $1,250 to $1,500. As CNM learns more about the upcoming changes, more information and details will be provided.
