“This is a 15-month program and, upon completion, students will earn a certificate in Retail Management,” said Vanessa LaGrange, program coordinator in the School of Business & Information Technology (BIT). “This certificate may be applied to an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Business Administration at CNM and may transfer into degree programs at other institutions.”

The students will meet Thursday nights at the Montoya Campus, taking one course every seven weeks. They will earn 24 credit hours when the program is completed. Students, who are from Albuquerque and Santa Fe, hold a variety of positions at Albertsons stores, including general managers, butchers, customer service representatives, bakers and more. Many are striving to go into general store management or obtain district management positions.

“All the courses are taught by BIT faculty members and are business administration classes, except for one accounting and one IT course,” LaGrange said. “Students will take courses in business professionalism, principles of management and marketing, and human resources management, to name a few.”

CNM is working in partnership with the Western Association of Food Chains (WAFC) on the program.

LaGrange noted that CNM hopes to attract more large-group cohorts to the program in the future.
