Fire Drills Scheduled Through First Three Weeks of Spring Term

January 10, 2019

The CNM Safety and Security departments will coordinate mandatory fire drills at all campuses at various times through the first three weeks of the Spring Term, which begins Monday. Please evacuate buildings when the fire drills occur. Here are some fire drill guidelines:

  • Prior to drills, faculty and staff supervisors should plan an evacuation route and assembly location with their class or employees. A roster of the class or employees should be ready at all times.
  • When the alarm goes off, everyone must exit the building. Quickly grab your backpack/purse/personal belongings, then exit building in an orderly manner.
  • Close the door behind you; do not use an elevator; take the shortest and safest path to the outside.
  • If you see people with mobility impairments, help them to a stairwell or exit point, then call Security at 224-3001. Stay with them until a Security Officer arrives.
  • Once outside the building, follow directions from fire drill staff and proceed to designated “Assembly Area.” Staff might show you options for Assembly Areas so you know where to go in case of a real evacuation. Assembly Area should be at least 50 feet away from building with ample space to move further away if needed.
  • At Assembly area, faculty should check student roster and supervisors should check employee rosters to ensure all people are accounted for.
  • Return to the building only after an “all clear” has been given by Security representatives.
