Fast Track Business Degree Prepares for Launch

The welcome event for students was held at the STEMulus Center, located at First Plaza Galleria in Downtown Albuquerque where the classes will be conducted.

Besides Ulibarri, Donna Diller, dean of the School of Business & Information Technology, welcomed the students, followed by an introduction to their instructors. They also had a brief visit by CNM’s mascot, Sol, before getting a tour of the classrooms.

The fast track business administration associate degree program officially begins Oct. 16 and classes will be held Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5:30-8:50 p.m., along with online instruction. In 15 months, the students will be graduating from the program “with the skills they need to go out in the workforce,” Diller said. The students will be following the same curriculum as the two-year program, only in an accelerated format.

As part of the program, each student is assigned a dedicated faculty mentor and the students will go through the program as a cohort -- the same students will progress through the same classes together. They also receive an iPad with all of their textbooks loaded onto the device. Dinner is provided each evening.

The program is taught by highly qualified instructors with a background working in the industry. The fast track format was designed by full-time faculty members who will work as a team to integrate and teach the curriculum using the Competency Based Education approach. In this fast track degree, classes are offered over a seven-and-a-half week period with a mixture of in-person and online components. The classes are fast-paced and offered in half the time of a standard class.
