CNM, Tourism Association Team Up to Increase Tourism

April 22, 2014 -- CNM and the Tourism Association of New Mexico (TANM) have teamed up to develop the first statewide training program for business owners, management and employees in the tourism industry.

The program aims to teach tourism industry professionals how to deliver the kind of first-class guest experience that will result in New Mexico tourists coming back to the state time and again.

The online Customer Training program will provide basic information to all employees in the hospitality industry and will expand to include more advanced levels of employee, manager and business-owner training.

“CNM is always ready and willing to support efforts that help our state advance and improve its economic prospects,” said Donna Diller, dean of CNM’s School of Business & Information Technology. “Our college currently has a great hospitality program, and we look forward to contributing to the development of a training program tailored to tourism professionals. We are thrilled to partner with TANM to strengthen New Mexico’s very important tourism industry.”

“We’ve worked for over a year to create a program that trains employees on the importance of delivering a positive guest experience to help bring visitors back again and again,” said Richard Holcomb, president of TANM. “Tourism is a huge economic driver in the state, and improving visitor retention will have a direct impact on business and the state’s bottom line.”

David Jackson, CNM Hospitality and Tourism instructor, has helped develop the training.

The new Customer Training program will be unveiled May 7 in Ruidoso at the annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism. The training will begin in mid-May in select communities with anticipated rollout across the state scheduled for the second half of 2014. The management portion of the program will be introduced by late summer with statewide rollout anticipated before the end of 2014.
