In this new role, he will be working with instructors to include sustainability in their curriculum, whether the class be English, math or science.

“There are a lot of innovative ways to teach sustainability,” Bennett said. “For example, English teachers can have their students write position papers about the worm bins, and math instructors can study the bins to see how rapidly the worms multiply.”

Bennett said that one big push in CHSS toward sustainability is the new Introduction to Sustainability class (SUST 1134).

“The class is being offered this term for the first time ever,” Bennett said. “It transfers directly into the Sustainability Studies minor at UNM and is the foundational course for the new Sustainability Emphasis within CNM's Liberal Arts associate degree. The Introduction to Sustainability class will also be closely aligned with Campus as a Living Lab throughout the semester.”
