AT Instructor Gives Drone Demo at Local Middle School

He flew a drone around the classroom and emphasized that drones are much more than toys – they can be sophisticated data collection devices.

Amy Ballard, associate dean in CNM’s School of Applied Technologies, met the Desert Ridge Middle School teacher at the Association for Career Technical Education Conference in September. The teacher told her that in one of her classes, students explore career options one hour each week.

Ballard returned to CNM and told faculty about the opportunity to speak to the students. Beltran was interested and took the opportunity to demonstrate the drone and inform the students about the upcoming CNM drone program.

Ballard said she’s hoping that other faculty members will be able to engage in similar activities with local schools.
