CNM recently welcomed the Native American Community Academy (NACA) and its high school students to their new home – the new Education Collaborative Building (EC) on Main Campus. NACA held a public blessing ceremony at the building before the first day of classes commenced on Monday for NACA, an Albuquerque Public Schools charter school. The ceremony began with remarks from both CNM and NACA leadership, followed by the traditional blessing ceremony.

The Education Collaborative Building began construction 18 months ago. In addition to NACA, the building will also soon become the new home for the College & Career High School, a dual credit high school launched by CNM and Albuquerque Public Schools in 2013, and CNM’s Teacher Education and Early Childhood Multicultural Education programs.

The first day of classes for CCHS is Aug. 27 and CNM students will begin on Sept. 3.

This innovative CNM-APS partnership and the 80,000-square-foot, joint-use facility, mark an encouraging milestone for the future of education in Albuquerque and New Mexico.

CNM President, Kathy Winograd, gave an emotion-filled speech at the beginning of the ceremony. President Winograd announced her retirement back in April.

The NACA community and experience helps students incorporate wellness and healthy life practices, community service and an appreciation of cultural diversity into their lives.
