Industry professionals judged the student competitors on the skills they'll need to succeed in the workforce. The competitions tested students’ skills in areas such as automotive technology, carpentry, culinary arts, masonry, plumbing, residential wiring, and many more.

Seventy-six CNM students participated in the state competition, where the gold medal winners in each event will advance to the annual National SkillsUSA Championships in Kansas City, Mo., from June 24-28.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce for the future. It is a national nonprofit organization serving secondary and postsecondary students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled-service occupations.

CNM has a very active SkillsUSA Chapter. In 2008, CNM won the national silver medal in the category of most outstanding SkillsUSA Chapter.
