Beginning Freshman Orientation
New beginning freshman students can choose to complete option 1 or option 2 to satisfy their orientation requirement.
Benefits of Orientation
Studies show that students who complete New Student Orientation before starting their first semester of college have a higher success rate and understand what to expect as a new student.
We'll show you how to check your student account registration holds and how to verify your address, phone number, program of study, and residency status. We'll also show you how to make an appointment with an advisor and register for classes.
After successfully completing your orientation, the hold on your account will be removed immediately as long as you entered your CNM ID number correctly. Take a screenshot of the completion page for your records. In case your hold isn’t removed, please contact us.
Option 1: In Person Orientation
Students who prefer face-to-face interactions and are vaccinated can attend an in-person orientation session to satisfy their orientation requirement. Upon completion of the in-person orientation, your orientation hold will be lifted from your account.
Follow the registration steps below to sign up for an in-person orientation session:
- Click the In-Person Orientation Registration button below. You will be asked to enter your CNM email address (username@cnm.edu) and your myCNM password to log in.
- Once you have successfully logged in, select the term for which you want to schedule your orientation, then select the campus.
- Review the dates/times and choose a date that best fits your schedule; In-person orientations are 4 hours long. Click Select this Session next to the session you want to register for.
- Complete the required fields by answering whether you require accommodations and specifying your request.
- Once you have completed the required fields, click Register. You will be redirected to a confirmation page. Please read the confirmation page. A confirmation email will also be sent to your myCNM email account with other important information.
Cancel or Reschedule an Orientation
- Choose your orientation type, either In-Person or Zoom.
- Log in and select the term and campus session to cancel.
- Find your session date and click the Cancellation button.
- Once you have canceled, you can register for a different orientation.
Please contact us at orientation@cnm.edu or call (505) 224-3000 if you need assistance.
Option 2: Online Orientation AND Zoom Session
Students who do not feel comfortable coming to campus (or have not been vaccinated) must complete a self-paced Online Orientation. The online orientation requires your CNM ID number so have it available when you begin. At the end of the online orientation, please print or take a screenshot of your completion page for your records. Once you've completed your online orientation, the orientation hold will be released from your student account. After you have completed the online orientation you can register for a Zoom virtual session.
Follow the registration steps below to sign up for a Zoom Orientation:
- After completing the online orientation, click the Zoom Orientation Registration button below. You will be asked to enter your CNM email address (username@cnm.edu) and your myCNM password to log in.

- Complete the required fields by answering whether you require accommodations and specifying your request.
- Once you have completed the required fields, click Register. You will be redirected to a confirmation page. Please read the confirmation page. A confirmation email will also be sent to your myCNM email account with other important information.
Family, Friends and Parents
Family members, friends, and loved ones of new students are welcome to view an online orientation made specifically for them to learn about CNM and how to support their student. This online session should take about 20 minutes to complete.
Zoom Sessions
Family and Allies also have the option of attending a parent session through Zoom if you would like to meet orientation staff and ask questions.
