Faculty Focus Day and Equity Summit

CNM’s 9th Annual Faculty Focus Day is scheduled for Aug. 25, 2022. Faculty Focus Day is an opportunity for CNM faculty and instructional staff to benefit from a wide range of professional development and training opportunities that may not be available during the busy weeks of the term.

The morning of Faculty Focus Day will be devoted to the Equity Summit with speakers and sessions focused on equity, ethnicity, and meeting diverse student needs. This summit is the result of collaboration between the CTL and Felecia Caton-Garcia, CNM’s Executive Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.  The summit is the result of research, practice, and reflection over the last several years of faculty, staff, and the CNM Equity Council.

We will begin the day with a plenary session with opening remarks and a plenary address. The morning breakout session, at 10 a.m., will offer a variety of topics to engage CNM faculty in exploring equity issues in higher education and the role of community colleges in either perpetuating or dismantling systemic inequalities. This summit is our portal into deeper conversations and the long-term commitment to practices, policies, and strategies that support equity for students and employees at CNM.

Afternoon sessions will include topics such as technology, faculty resources, student resources, college initiatives, discipline-specific training, and teaching strategies. Many departments across CNM welcome FFD as a chance to communicate with faculty about relevant information and programs.

In-Person Format
The format for Faculty Focus Day this year will be in-person on Main Campus, beginning the day in Smith Brasher. We will have a contingency plan ready to shift to a remote event if pandemic conditions require it. Additionally, any safety protocols recommended at that time will be in place, such as the availability of N95 masks and outdoor eating areas.

If you need to cancel your lunch order, please email ctl@cnm.edu by August 8, so CNM does not purchase unneeded meals.

General Registration for Faculty Focus Day Is NOT Required

No general registration or sign-up for Faculty Focus Day is necessary, and there will be no central check-in area. Simply attend the sessions that interest you throughout the day, or those for which you pre-registered.

Procedure

Paper sign-in sheets will be located in each session room. There will be a different sheet for each School; please sign-in legibly on the sheet specific for your school, and if you change your mind and leave for another session, cross out your name.  Thanks for following these procedures! It ensures accurate documentation for part-time faculty compensation, full-time faculty requirements, and it helps our admin staff tremendously.

Sessions That Recommend Pre-Registration

Most sessions do not require pre-registration, but pre-registration for some of the sessions is requested. Please see the session descriptions in the catalog to find out if there is a pre-registration option.

Faculty Focus Day Catalog

The complete Catalog is available at this link: FFD 2022 Session Catalog.

Due to its length and the possibility of last-minute changes and updates, the CTL urges you not to print the document. The electronic PDF contains links to every session from the Table of Contents and the Schedule at a Glance, making the catalog easy to navigate and view on any mobile device. For your convenience, you may download and print this Event Planner to plan your day.

Note: A limited number of printed catalogs will be available at the CTL Resource Table for viewing the day of the event but will not be distributed, so please plan accordingly by outlining your day in advance or bringing a mobile device to view the catalog online during the day. Additionally, QR Code images that link to the catalog on mobile devices will be posted in various locations across the campus.

Faculty Attendance Expectations

Faculty Focus Day is a contractually required workday for full-time faculty. Part-time faculty may be compensated for attending, but you must consult with your supervisor about the possibility of compensation in advance of the event.
Please direct questions about attendance to your dean or supervisor. If you have an approved accommodation, please contact your supervising Dean or Associate Dean and Erica Reed.
